Bristlecone Labs LLC ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Nomina mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our App.

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

  • Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address. You may also sign in anonymously, in which case we assign a unique identifier to your account.

  • Name Preferences: We collect the naming preferences you provide, including preferred genders, cultural origins, naming styles, syllable ranges, and any free-text prompts you enter to guide AI-generated name suggestions.

  • AI Prompts: The text prompts you submit to generate personalized name suggestions are stored in our database and associated with your account.

  • Name Interactions: We record which names you like, dislike, delete, or manually add to your shortlist.

  • Partner Connection: If you connect with a partner, we store the connection relationship and the invite codes used to establish it.

  • Communications: If you contact us for support, we may retain your correspondence.

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Usage Data: We collect information about how you use the App, including features accessed, screens viewed, time spent, and interaction patterns.

  • Device Information: We may collect device type, operating system version, and unique device identifiers.

  • Push Notification Tokens: With your permission, we collect device tokens to deliver push notifications.

1.3 Information We Do NOT Collect

  • Location Data: Nomina does not collect or access your device location.

  • Contacts or Photos: Nomina does not access your contacts, photos, or other device media.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the App

  • Generate personalized baby name suggestions using AI based on your preferences and prompts

  • Moderate user-submitted prompts for safety and appropriateness before processing them with AI models

  • Enable partner pairing and detect shared name matches between connected partners

  • Display your liked names, shortlists, and shared matches

  • Process subscription payments

  • Send you push notifications about partner matches, new name suggestions, and shortlist updates (with your consent)

  • Respond to your inquiries and provide customer support

  • Analyze usage patterns to improve user experience

  • Comply with legal obligations

3. AI-Generated Content and Content Moderation

3.1 AI Name Generation

Nomina uses third-party large language model (LLM) services to generate baby name suggestions based on your preferences and prompts. Your prompts and preferences are sent to these AI services to produce results. The AI-generated names, meanings, origins, and related metadata are stored in our database and associated with your account.

3.2 Content Moderation

User-submitted prompts are screened for safety before being sent to AI models. We use automated content moderation systems, including third-party moderation APIs, to detect and block prompts that contain harmful, abusive, or inappropriate content. Prompts that are flagged by our moderation systems will be rejected, and no names will be generated for them.

3.3 Prompt Storage

Your AI prompts are stored in our database to provide continuity in your experience (e.g., restoring your most recent prompt) and to improve the quality of our service. You may request deletion of your stored prompts at any time (see Section 7).

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate the App:

These services may collect information sent by your device or our servers as part of providing their services to us. When your prompts are sent to AI services for name generation or moderation, those services may process the text in accordance with their own privacy policies.

5. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information in the following circumstances:

  • Partner Features: If you connect with a partner through the App, names that you both like will be visible to both of you as shared matches. Your partner may also see your display name.

  • With Your Consent: When you explicitly agree to share information.

  • Service Providers: With third-party vendors who assist us in operating the App, subject to confidentiality obligations. This includes AI model providers that process your prompts to generate name suggestions.

  • Legal Requirements: If required by law, regulation, or legal process.

  • Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. AI prompts and generated names are retained as part of your account data. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time (see Section 7).

7. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. This includes encryption in transit and at rest where applicable. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.

8. Your Rights and Choices

8.1 All Users

  • Access and Update: You can access and update your preferences and account information within the App.

  • Delete Account: You can request deletion of your account and all associated data (including stored prompts, name interactions, and partner connections) by contacting us at [email protected].

  • Notifications: You can manage push notification preferences in the App settings or your device settings.

  • Partner Connection: You can disconnect from a partner at any time through the App settings.

8.2 European Economic Area (EEA) Residents — GDPR Rights

If you are in the EEA, you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

  • Right to Access: Request a copy of your personal data.

  • Right to Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate data.

  • Right to Erasure: Request deletion of your personal data.

  • Right to Restrict Processing: Request limitation of processing.

  • Right to Data Portability: Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.

  • Right to Object: Object to processing based on legitimate interests.

  • Right to Withdraw Consent: Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.

9. Children's Privacy

The App is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information. While the App helps parents choose baby names, the App itself is intended for use by adults only.

10. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence, including the United States. These countries may have different data protection laws. By using the App, you consent to the transfer of your information to these countries.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy in the App and updating the "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
